African-American Culture, Heritage, and History

Much of the culture and heritage of African-Americans is being rediscovered by them and being discovered by the other races in America. This course explores African-American history starting with their capture, enslavement, and present times. It takes the student to the origins of cultural elements and the rich heritage of this major segment of the American population. The Internet had played a major role in recent years in educating Americans of all races about who these first African-Americans were, where they came from, how they got here, and the tragedies and accomplishments through the centuries of being a significant part of the American fabric. You can begin to use these, or the many other Internet resources, in building exciting learning activities by designing web quests lessons that guide your students through the resources and let them form their own conclusions through the process of critical thinking
18th, 19th, & 20th Century U.S. History

These three centuries were the most influential in the development of the United States of America. This course guides you through selected Internet resources that look at the American evolution as a nation and the influences from other parts of the World that helped that process. Look at the reason people came to America, the formation of the Confederacy and then the Republic, the wars, the politics, the immigration of different cultures and races, and the industrial revolution that made America such a economic powerhouse. Though the assignments in the course only touch on some of the thousands of Internet resources, when visiting one web site in this course, you may find dozens of others that will open the door to exploring more and more. Clusters of Web sites can be collected to form the basis for many lesson. In this course, your course project you will be to develop a web quest based lesson for your students. The course not only helps open the information door, but provides a practical project for your students.
Important World Events

There are thousands of “important world events.” This course only looks at three of them to provide specific Internet resources on each that you could use for a lesson and also to stimulate your interest in researching your own favorite World event that you feel your students should know about. The Internet has amazing resources on almost any topic. For this course there are three events to cover; “The Titanic,” “Women’s Suffrage,” and “The Space Race.” Each has an impact on American life and plus World implications. By digging into each of the topics, you will learn how various Internet web sites are organized, structured, and the extent of not only just information, but useful visual material, animations, interactions and even lesson plans you can glean ideas from and adopt for your students. The course project will let you determine the related topic by designing and developing a web quest style lesson for your students.
Major Events In America's First Hundred Years

As part of the debates about the evolution of the US government, eventually debaters go back to the basis for our government – the Constitution of the United States. Students gain knowledge of part of the evolution of the United State by studying the early events of the first hundred years. The course only scratches the surface of the resources that are available, literally, at your finger tips. You can then select the ones that meet your students learning needs and your instructional goals. The course project will guide you through development of a web quest style lesson to help your student explore, investigate, and understand how America was formed.
